North To Alaska

Hi Friends,

That's it - we're moving to Alaska (don't I wish).   The current temperature in Anchorage is 36 degrees F - tomorrow will be 40F with rain!  They basically have no State Income Tax because of the vast oil reserves and drilling.  It's gorgeous in the summer and the air seems so much cleaner up there.   Besides, I like bears and antelope - they are better than bugs and snakes, in my viewpoint anyway. ha ha

The temperature indicated in the picture is tomorrow morning's predicted temperatures (schools already closed in a lot of areas for today and tomorrow - again).   At least my house is nice  and warm - some people don't have that luxury and my heart goes out to them.

There is a desperate shortage of Propane Gas in our state.   Some of the winterized cottages (turned into year round homes) up north and mobile homes that use propane gas to heat with can't get any propane.   Several restaurants up in the north woods have closed because they can't get the propane to cook with.  Our Governor is working on the issue.  The price of Propane Gas in our state has skyrocketed from $1+ per gallon to $7+ per gallon.

Tomorrow we have a couple of appointments to run to.  I'm not  looking forward to driving out in it.  I always worry about the car breaking down, but it never has in all these years of driving in this kind of weather.

I know most of the US is in a deep freeze, so I'm really not complaining - much!  ha ha   I do know we need to fire Mother Nature!

Stay warm!

  1. This winter weather has really packed a wallop this time around! I'm sending along wishes for your warmth and safety!

  2. Good heavens, Mary ! I just had my propane tank filled and was aghast that it was $1.79/ gallon !!! The schools around here have used up all their snow days and it's only January...temps here have been in the single digits and below zero too...before the wind chill. last night we had 35-50 mph gusts.

  3. Wow, that's a 50 degree difference. I don't think I've ever been in colder than -10 degrees - maybe -15 - it's been in the 40's here and clear, so it drops into the 20's at night - guess I shouldn't whine about it, eh???

I hope your trips to your appointments go safely. I got my new lenses for my glasses today - they are somewhat better, but things are still kind of blurry - guess I'll have to clean off my table so I can move my computer terminal closer to my face. - thanks for your comment.

Is your robin still around? T.

  4. This has been one of the worst winters that I can remember. Maybe 1978 -79 was equal but I was young then and I didn't give a tiddley poop about the weather. makes a difference when you get old and live alone. Stay safe Mary!!

  5. Alaska does sound like a good alternative right about now! Hope that your appointments went well today, and you didn't freeze too badly.

  6. Oh my! I swear, the polar ice caps have shifted down to the States! My heart goes out to those who are lacking heat this time of year. It's beyond imaging.
I am glad you and your family are keeping warm and hope you have a safe trip today. *hugs*

  7. I am glad I don't live there to tell the truth. I don't think I could get around even a little bit. Unless I found me a big strong man to be my hubby. Heeehehe.

  8. I feel sorry for the people in your state but they voted for Walker just like Jersey deserves Christie. I hope the people can get propane. Hope you had a warm weekend like we have.
